All eight games in the second round of the FIDE Candidates tournaments in Cyprus ended in draws. Fabiano Caruana, R Praggnanandhaa and Javokhir Sindarov remained level on 1.5 points from two games in the open competition.

Anish Giri tested Caruana in a Catalan structure, but accurate defence neutralised the pressure. Praggnanandhaa won a pawn against Wei Yi without breaking through, while Matthias Bluebaum held Sindarov and Hikaru Nakamura defended an endgame against Andrey Esipenko.

Every women’s contender reached one point. Zhu Jiner missed a winning opportunity against Kateryna Lagno before perpetual check ended their game. Divya Deshmukh also let an advantage slip against R Vaishali, whose tactical resource secured a rook-endgame draw.
