Rowan Elaraby returned to PSA competition with a straight-games victory over Hannah Craig at the Steel City Open. The Egyptian had been absent since suffering a serious leg injury at the previous May’s World Championships, which required surgery and a lengthy recovery.

Elaraby won 11-5, 11-5, 12-10 in 34 minutes to progress through the second round in Pittsburgh. Top seed Satomi Watanabe recovered from a game down against Nadien Elhammamy, while Saran Nghiem upset seventh seed Malak Khafagy in five games.

Amanda and Sabrina Sobhy both advanced to set up a sister-versus-sister quarterfinal. Georgina Kennedy, Jasmine Hutton and Melissa Alves also won without dropping a game as the tournament’s last eight was confirmed.
