Emily Sams replaces injured Jordyn Bugg in USA squad
A hamstring problem prompted the SheBelieves Cup defensive change.
Source publication date:
Emily Sams replaced Jordyn Bugg in the United States Women’s National Team’s SheBelieves Cup squad after Bugg developed a hamstring problem during the team’s first training session in Nashville. U.S. Soccer announced the change on February 26.
Angel City defender Sams was scheduled to join camp that day. She brought nine senior international appearances and had also participated in the national team’s January gathering in Southern California.
In the January 27 match against Chile, Sams captained the United States for the first time and registered her first international goal and assist. Her recall restores a defensive option ahead of the tournament’s March fixtures against Argentina, Canada and Colombia.
