Source publication date:
England Athletics named its first trail-running team for the Home Countries International at the Lake District fifty-three-kilometre race on 11 April. The new representative opportunity will also form part of the Great Britain and Northern Ireland selection process for June’s European Off-Road Championships.
The men’s team comprises Ben Rothery, Bertie Houghton, Daniel Connolly and Grant Cunliffe. Emily Cowper-Coles, Eve Pannone, Holly Wootten and Sarah Forbes-Smith make up the women’s team, with all eight athletes selected for the inaugural English appearance in this format.
The course starts in Keswick and includes Scafell Pike, Honister Pass and Catbells before returning to the town. Its 53 kilometres involve 2,640 metres of climbing and descending, offering a substantial test as England develops a pathway towards international trail competition.
