England’s youth indoor championships open with records in Sheffield
Sprint and field-event performances set a high standard across the first day.
Source publication date:
The opening day of England’s under-fifteen, under-seventeen and under-twenty indoor championships produced national records and championship bests in Sheffield. Deep sprint fields and improved jumping performances characterised a programme that required strong qualifying performances simply to reach several of the finals.
Sophie Thomas won the under-twenty 60 metres in 7.33, a Scottish indoor record. Annabella Fasuba took the under-seventeen title in 7.36, a championship best, while Daisy Snell won the under-twenty long jump after improving her indoor best to 6.20 metres.
Lucia Bertacchini won the under-twenty 400 metres in 54.58 after a lifetime best in qualifying. Emmanuel Ofori-Manteaw’s 7.08 secured the under-fifteen 60-metre crown, with other jumping and vaulting events adding further records as the first half of the two-day championship concluded.
