English lowers Irish indoor 800m record in Ostrava
A 1:44.23 finish improved his own January record by 0.42 seconds.

Mark English ran 1:44.23 for third place over 800m at the Czech Indoor Gala in Ostrava, improving his Irish indoor record. The 32-year-old bettered the 1:44.65 mark he had set in Luxembourg on 18 January by 0.42 seconds.
Athletics Ireland reported that the performance placed English eleventh on the world indoor all-time list and sixth in Europe. The record remained subject to ratification, following an earlier January Irish 600m best of 1:15.80.
Emma Moore also competed in Ostrava, finishing sixth in the women’s 800m in 2:02.19. Sarah Lavin placed fifth in her 60m hurdles heat with 8.15 and did not advance to the final, completing the federation’s account of the Irish performances.
