Giovanna Epis won the women’s race at the nineteenth Romeo and Juliet Half Marathon in Verona in 1:11:48. The Italian finished ahead of Alice Gaggi’s 1:14:32 and Germany’s Lisa Fuchs, who completed the course in 1:14:45.
Epis described the race as a useful test after three weeks of intensive altitude preparation in Kenya. Approximately ten thousand runners took part in the event, with favourable weather conditions accompanying the February road competition.
Therence Bizoza won the men’s race in 1:03:51 after a decisive finish inside the Bentegodi stadium. Daniele Meucci crossed one second later for second place and said a hesitation at the stadium entrance had interrupted his momentum during the final contest.
