European Cup opportunities help shape Great Britain's world championship roster
Kyle Inglis, Sam Lyne and Jack Hopkins carried their debut international experience into the squad named in March.
Source publication date:
Great Britain's March world championship roster included three players who had made their national team debuts in the season's European Cup of Nations events. Defender Kyle Inglis and forwards Sam Lyne and Jack Hopkins emerged from a programme that gave coach Pete Russell additional opportunities to assess developing players.
The IIHF report described how the tournaments in Sosnowiec and Edinburgh broadened selection beyond the Elite League. Russell said nine NIHL players were involved in Edinburgh, where Britain defeated Poland 5–4 to finish third.
Hopkins scored his first international goal in that match, while Logan Neilson contributed four power play goals across six European Cup games. The experiences fed into Britain's return to the top world championship division in Switzerland.
