Fan Zhendong signs one-year Borussia Düsseldorf contract
The Paris Olympic singles champion is due to join from Saarbrücken for the 2026–2027 season.

Borussia Düsseldorf signed Fan Zhendong on a one-year contract for the 2026–2027 season. The Chinese Olympic champion was due to arrive on 1 July 2026 from German league rival 1. FC Saarbrücken, adding another leading player to Düsseldorf’s squad.
Fan was set to join Dang Qiu, Anton Källberg, Kanak Jha and Li Yongyin. His signing came one year after Timo Boll’s retirement from the club. Boll, now an ambassador after eighteen years as a Düsseldorf player, welcomed Fan’s move to the team.
The club announcement described Fan’s Paris 2024 singles and team Olympic gold medals and nine world titles. Fan thanked Saarbrücken for introducing him to the Bundesliga and referred to Boll’s legacy. Düsseldorf manager Andreas Preuss described the signing as a major addition to the club.
