Sara Fantini opened her 2026 hammer season with 72.38 at a regional winter throwing championship in Piacenza. The European champion reached her best distance in the second round after starting with 71.22, then completed three further valid throws before a final foul.

The performance preceded the national winter championship in Mariano Comense, where Fantini would pursue an eighteenth consecutive Italian title across summer and winter editions. Her main international target remained defending her European crown in Birmingham.

FIDAL also reported indoor improvements elsewhere in Italy. Elisa Molinarolo raised her pole-vault seasonal best to 4.51 in Padua, while Ottavia Cestonaro achieved a long-jump personal best of 6.47. Filippo Vedana won the Modena-independent Bergamo hurdles final in 7.94.
