Faroes rearrange March camp around San Marino
Cancelled Asian fixtures prompted a replacement friendly.
Source publication date:
Faroe Islands coach Eyðun Klakstein selected 23 players for a replacement March friendly against San Marino. Planned matches against the United Arab Emirates and Singapore had been cancelled because of unrest in the Middle East, leaving the federation to arrange an alternative programme.
The new match was scheduled at San Marino Stadium on 28 March, giving the men’s squad one confirmed fixture during its training camp. The announcement included players based in countries such as Norway, Italy, Iceland, Finland, Denmark and Kazakhstan alongside domestic club representatives.
The Faroes had previously faced San Marino twice during qualification for the 1996 European Championship. Both meetings in 1995 ended in Faroese victories, 3-0 at home and 3-1 away, providing the historical background to the newly agreed friendly.
