The Faroe Islands women’s under-16 team completed a UEFA development tournament in Moldova with one draw and two defeats. Coach Jákup Mortensen described the three matches as useful learning experiences after meetings with Malta, the hosts and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Faroes lost 4-0 to Malta before drawing 1-1 with Moldova through Vivia Lind Magnusardóttir’s goal. They won the subsequent shootout 3-0, with Ester Vang, Lilja Dam Jacobsen and Sigga Smæri Næs converting and goalkeeper Heidi Jacobsen saving two Moldovan penalties.
Bosnia and Herzegovina then defeated the Faroes 6-0 and won all three of its tournament games. Mortensen said the final opponent held physical and technical advantages, while the improved display against Moldova gave his team positive experience to carry into later preparation.
