Football Association of Wales independent chair Alys Carlton won the NED to Watch category at the 2026 Non-Executive Director Awards. The ceremony at Claridge's in London marked the twentieth anniversary of awards organised by Peel Hunt in partnership with The Sunday Times.

Carlton became the FAW's independent chair in 2023. The federation linked the recognition to her work strengthening governance, supporting strategic delivery and guiding the organisation through growth, with an emphasis on transparent and inclusive leadership at board level.

Her professional background includes corporate law, leadership coaching and board advisory work. The awards recognise non-executives who support and challenge executive teams, while the FAW described Carlton's honour as recognition of its developing skills-based board and the wider contribution of independent oversight in football.
