FIBA Africa trains national coach-development leaders
A four-day Abidjan programme brought together 15 representatives from 12 national federations.
Source publication date:
FIBA Africa held its first National Coach Developer Program in Abidjan from 4 to 7 August 2026, alongside the U18 AfroBasket. Fifteen technical directors and technical department representatives attended from 12 African national federations.
The participating federations represented Côte d’Ivoire, Gabon, Algeria, Madagascar, Sierra Leone, Mali, Senegal, Chad, Comoros, Guinea, Cameroon and Uganda. The training focused on the tools needed to design and run national coach education rather than on a single team’s match preparation.
The initiative aimed to help federations maintain their own continuing education systems, adapted to local circumstances and aligned with FIBA’s development framework. Participants also exchanged experience across national structures. The course is a verified completed activity; longer-term implementation remains an objective described by the federation.
