FIDAL presents gender equality programme at parliament
The commission highlighted coaching access, leadership training and recognition of women champions.
Source publication date:
FIDAL presented its new Gender Equality Commission at Italy’s Chamber of Deputies in Rome. Vice-president Manuela Levorato outlined the commission’s work during a discussion on women, sport and dual careers.
The measures included reserved places for women on coaching courses, regional inclusion meetings and leadership and equal-opportunity training. The federation had also introduced a champion’s jersey using feminine wording, first awarded at the national race-walking championships.
Levorato identified the low representation of women among coaches and administrators as an issue requiring further action. The event brought athletics into discussion with other sports and policymakers about combining elite careers, education and personal life; it did not establish that those representation gaps had already been resolved.
