Zimbabwe make 4x400m history as Yego wins sixth African title
The final day in Accra brought Zimbabwe a first men’s relay crown and another javelin title for Julius Yego.

Zimbabwe won the men’s 4x400m at the African Athletics Championships for the first time on the final day in Accra. The relay title followed the team’s World Athletics Relays final and qualification for the 2027 World Championships.
Kenya’s Julius Yego collected a sixth African men’s javelin title, extending a championship record built across more than a decade. Kenya also took the top two places in the women’s 3000m steeplechase, with Diana Chepkemoi winning in 9:29.18 ahead of Mercy Chepngeno in 9:30.46.
Benin’s Odile Ahouanwanou secured a third consecutive heptathlon title with 5,309 points. This report records the completed final-day outcomes from 17 May rather than the earlier rounds already covered separately.
