FIDAL meets Italian government over Rome 2029 world championship bid
The federation presents its proposal before the 3 April candidature deadline.
Source publication date:
FIDAL president Stefano Mei led a meeting with the Italian government in Rome on 25 March to discuss the capital’s proposed bid for the 2029 World Athletics Championships. The session focused on presenting the federation’s project for assessment.
Mei told Ansa that the meeting had gone well and that he believed the proposal had been understood. He said the federation had supplied what had been requested and was ready to begin, while awaiting the government’s evaluation.
The technical discussions involved the government assessment team responsible for considering the financial contribution required to deliver the project. FIDAL identified 3 April as the deadline for submitting the candidature; the report described a bid under preparation rather than an awarded championship.
