FIDAL opens applications for ten Blue Flag cities
The municipality programme supports publicly accessible routes for walking and running.

FIDAL and the Italian municipalities association ANCI opened applications for the 2026 Bandiera Azzurra programme. The federation confirmed that up to ten cities could receive the distinction during the year, continuing a project centred on community participation in walking and running.
Applicant municipalities were required to create or identify a local urban route suitable for both activities. The programme sought participation across age groups, with particular attention to younger residents and opportunities to use public spaces for regular exercise.
Flag presentation ceremonies were to take place before the end of the year and involve local communities. The federation also identified the Golden Gala Pietro Mennea as an opportunity to bring together mayors from the successful municipalities.
