FIL announces first alpine luge sprint slalom demo
The Jenner event introduced a snow-slope competition format and a public participation programme.
Source publication date:
FIL announced the first World Cup demonstration of alpine luge sprint slalom at the Jenner in Schönau am Königssee. The event was scheduled for 28 February following successful tests of the new format during the previous year.
Unlike luge on an ice track, the discipline uses snow-covered slopes and a set slalom course. FIL described shorter courses, more moderate speeds and newly developed equipment designed to manoeuvre through gates on snow as well as ice.
The programme included women’s and men’s runs, a public luge park and an open children’s race. Equipment trials were offered free of charge, with rental helmets available, connecting the demonstration competition to a participation initiative for visitors and younger potential lugers.
