Finland defeated Sweden 4–1 at Milan’s Santagiulia arena to recover from its opening Olympic men’s hockey defeat. The result left both Nordic teams with one win and three points in group B, behind Slovakia after two preliminary appearances.

Nikolas Matinpalo and Anton Lundell gave Finland a two-goal opening-period lead. Rasmus Dahlin replied on the power play for Sweden, but Joel Armia restored the margin with a short-handed goal as Finland’s disciplined defending limited subsequent opportunities.

Juuse Saros supported the Finnish effort in a contest containing sixteen minor penalties. Swedish players said their inconsistent execution and time spent on the outside had restricted the attack, while Finland welcomed the collective work required to win another intense chapter in the countries’ long Olympic rivalry.
