Finland defeated Switzerland 3–1 to record its first victory in Olympic women’s hockey group A. The Finns scored all three goals during the second period, finally finding an attacking response after illness and two scoreless defeats had disrupted their tournament start.

Sanni Vanhanen contributed a goal and an assist, with Viivi Vainikka and Julia Liikala also scoring. Finland outshot Switzerland 31–15, providing evidence of a stronger overall performance as players described the relief brought by their first goals in Milan.

Switzerland completed its group schedule in fifth place with one overtime win and three defeats. Finland still had a rescheduled match against Canada to play, leaving its final placing unresolved and a possible quarter-final rematch with Switzerland dependent on that remaining result.
