FIS reported progress on WinterWildTraces after January roundtables at Val Thorens and Crans Montana. The federation, Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and Naturalia Environnement brought together organisers, local authorities, researchers and environmental specialists to examine disturbance from winter sporting events.

Val Thorens discussions proposed environmental reviews when selecting competition slopes and clearer guidance for spectators near sensitive wildlife areas. At Crans Montana, participants considered mapping vulnerable sites and migration routes, alongside temporary nighttime openings in fencing to help animals move.

The two contrasting pilot venues will support a common methodology that can adapt to other events. Planned work for 2026 includes organiser interviews, practical workshops and a scientific literature review before developing guidance grounded in local evidence.
