FIS reports record Para snowsports participation in Italy
Fifty-three national associations competed across its three Paralympic disciplines.
Source publication date:
FIS reported a record fifty-three national ski associations across Para alpine, cross-country and snowboard at Milano Cortina. That total exceeded the previous high by four, with forty-three nations represented in alpine, thirty-two in cross-country and thirty in snowboard during the Paralympic programme.
Alpine medals went to athletes from nineteen nations, while sixteen countries reached cross-country podiums and ten earned snowboard medals. Cross-country medallists represented all fifteen impairment classes competing across the vision-impaired, standing and sitting categories, demonstrating breadth beyond the overall country totals.
The Games were the first winter Paralympics since those three sports transferred from IPC governance to FIS in July 2022. Further work on physical impairment classification was scheduled for 2028 ahead of the next Winter Games in the French Alps.
