FISU and the World Baseball Softball Confederation held leadership meetings in Lausanne on 24 February to strengthen their cooperation. Leonz Eder welcomed WBSC president Riccardo Fraccari together with the confederation’s executive director and chief operating officer.

The discussions considered the development of baseball and softball in university sport, including possible innovations to rules and competition arrangements. Both organisations connected the work to student participation and the role of university sport in developing future leaders.

FISU confirmed that baseball and softball were official sports for the North Carolina 2029 World University Games. The federations said they would maintain close communication as preparations continued, using the future Games programme to encourage the sports’ visibility and wider youth involvement.
