FISU committee advances statutes, strategy and championship changes
Football will move to national championship format from 2028.

FISU’s Executive Committee approved proposed statutes for submission to the General Assembly and finalised its 2031 strategy for that assembly’s approval. The June meeting therefore advanced proposals rather than completing the final assembly decision.
The committee adopted eligibility and financial support plans for the Step-Up Programme at Changchun 2027. It also approved ten championship hosting bids outright and two conditionally, distinguishing confirmed allocations from those still subject to requirements.
Football was set to change from University World Cup to World University Championship format in 2028, with no 2027 World Cup. New anti-doping rules effective 1 January 2027 included delegation of therapeutic-use exemption management to the ITA.
