FIVB renames flagship championship as Volleyball World Cup
The new designation begins with the 2027 men's and women's editions.

The FIVB Board of Administration approved renaming the Volleyball World Championship as the Volleyball World Cup. The designation will begin in 2027, when Poland hosts the men's tournament and the United States and Canada stage the women's competition.
The change follows earlier reforms that increased each field to thirty-two national teams and moved the event from a four-year to a two-year cycle. The expanded format was first used in 2025 and combines pool competition with elimination rounds through the final.
FIVB said the World Cup name would improve recognition of its leading national-team event. The 2027 editions will also provide Olympic qualification places: the three highest-finishing teams per gender that have not already qualified will earn tickets for Los Angeles 2028.
