Athletics Ireland recognised five volunteers honoured at the 2025 Volunteers in Sport Awards. The ceremony took place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Blanchardstown on 26 February, with the federation publishing its account and congratulations in early March.

The athletics recipients were Tom Loughnane of St Cronan’s, Ger Redmond of Coolock Running Club, Patrick Finnerty of Cabinteely, Adrian Curley of Tullamore Harriers and John Joe Doyle of DMP. Their work covered club leadership, coaching and opportunities for participation.

Sport minister Charlie McConalogue delivered the keynote address. Federation of Irish Sport chief executive Mary O’Connor highlighted volunteering’s estimated €1.5 billion annual economic contribution, while Sport Ireland’s Úna May noted that more than 268,000 people are involved in coaching, largely as volunteers.
