Four qualify for freestyle world semifinals
Carlsen led the rapid preliminary stage ahead of Keymer, Caruana and Abdusattorov.

Magnus Carlsen, Vincent Keymer, Fabiano Caruana and Nodirbek Abdusattorov qualified for the FIDE Freestyle Chess World Championship semifinals. The seven-round rapid preliminary tournament ended in Weissenhaus with Carlsen leading on 4.5 points and the other qualifiers each scoring four.
Qualification remained open until the last round, when several players could still reach the top four. Caruana defeated Arjun Erigaisi in their decisive encounter, while Abdusattorov drew with Carlsen. Keymer had already secured his position with a round to spare.
Hans Niemann finished the stage on 3.5 points, Erigaisi on three and Javokhir Sindarov and Levon Aronian on two. The rapid games used ten minutes plus a five-second increment, with a new starting position each round before the championship moved to longer knockout matches.
