Source publication date:
Hartlepool United appointed Gary Liddle as first-team coach after promoting him from a professional-development position in the academy. He joined Nicky Featherstone's staff and was to leave his role as Whitby Town manager to focus on the new responsibilities.
Liddle made 364 Hartlepool appearances across three playing spells and helped the club win promotion in the 2021 National League playoff final. His wider playing career covered 22 years and 813 senior appearances.
He began coaching as Whitby's player-manager in October 2024 before retiring from playing the following February. Liddle returned to Hartlepool's academy in July 2025 and was completing his UEFA A licence. Both he and Featherstone emphasised shared expectations for training and performance.
