Both recovered from late second- or third-set deficits in the second round.
Source publication date:
Coco Gauff defeated Kamilla Rakhimova 6–3, 7–6(5) to reach the Indian Wells third round. The fourth seed recovered from 5–2 down in the second set and overcame ten double faults, extending her unbeaten record against the qualifier to three professional meetings.
Gauff used defensive speed, slices and net play to withstand windy conditions before finishing the tiebreak with an overhead. She saved eight of thirteen break points and earned a main-draw victory at the tournament for a sixth consecutive year.
Alexandra Eala defeated Dayana Yastremska 7–5, 4–6, 7–5 in two hours forty-three minutes to become Gauff’s next opponent. Yastremska served for the match at 5–4 in the decider, but the Filipino player won the final three games to continue her tournament debut.
