Gauff defeats Cirstea to complete quarterfinal set at WTA 1000 events
The American reached Miami’s last eight for the first time.

Coco Gauff defeated Sorana Cirstea 6–3, 4–6, 6–2 to reach her first Miami Open quarterfinal. She became the youngest player to reach the quarterfinals at every existing WTA 1000 tournament since that category was introduced in 2009.
Both players struggled to protect serve through the opening two sets, each breaking five times. Gauff changed the pattern in the decider by holding all her service games, including winning eight of nine points across her final two holds.
A spectator’s illness caused a lengthy interruption during the third set, but the American retained her advantage after play resumed. She finished at the net on her third match point, moving to two wins from two meetings with the Romanian and extending her home-state campaign.
