The third seed reversed their previous tournament result and moved into a meeting with Elise Mertens.
Source publication date:
Coco Gauff defeated Anna Kalinskaya 6–4, 6–4 in Dubai’s second round, recovering from a break down in both sets. The result reversed their previous meeting at the tournament, when Kalinskaya had beaten Gauff in the 2024 quarterfinals.
Kalinskaya led 2–0 in the opener and 3–1 in the second set, but received treatment on her left leg during the first set. Both players struggled for consistency in windy conditions, with Gauff committing twelve double faults.
Gauff’s returning and defensive play helped her regain control at important stages. She advanced to face Elise Mertens, who defeated Emma Navarro 6–2, 6–2, with the American holding a four-match unbeaten record against the Belgian.
