Gauff returns from arm concern with Miami comeback over Cocciaretto
The home favourite won in three sets after considering withdrawal.

Coco Gauff defeated Elisabetta Cocciaretto 4–6, 6–3, 6–4 in her Miami Open opener. The American returned after retiring from Indian Wells with an arm problem and said playing near home had helped persuade her to compete despite uncertainty before the tournament.
Cocciaretto’s early ball striking disrupted Gauff’s rhythm before the American adjusted to the pace and gained control of longer rallies. Rain caused a prolonged interruption, and Gauff overcame eleven double faults while winning sixty-three percent of her service points.
The victory was Gauff’s 103rd career WTA 1000 or equivalent-tier match win before turning twenty-three. That total drew her level with Caroline Wozniacki in the historical comparison, behind Martina Hingis, as she began another campaign in her home state.
