The University of Gdańsk became the first Polish institution certified through FISU’s Healthy Campus programme. It received bronze recognition after successfully validating fifty-five criteria relating to physical activity, wellbeing, social responsibility and sustainable campus development.

Rector Piotr Stepnowski connected the certification to the university’s long-term approach to sport and student life. He also highlighted the construction of a new sports centre intended to improve conditions for training, recreation and community activities.

Physical education and sport director Tomasz Aftański said the recognition provided further motivation to develop university sport and wellbeing programmes. FISU’s announcement placed Gdańsk within an international network of certified campuses, with the programme assessing institutional systems rather than individual sporting performances.
