Georgia’s men’s team won a new mixed-category prison chess tournament after taking all four matches. The online event on 5 March brought together eight teams from Georgia, England and Latvia, combining men’s, women’s and youth groups in a single competitive pool.

England’s men, England’s youth team and the Latvian side shared second place with five match points. Georgia’s women were the highest-placed female team, while England’s youth players led their category, supporting the organisers’ trial of an integrated format.

FIDE Chess for Freedom leader Mikhail Korenman also visited Georgian penitentiary officials and rehabilitation programmes. A parallel draughts competition was won by Latvia, whose Jelgava prison team finished first in the combined standings with eleven points.
