Baadur Jobava and Nino Batsiashvili each secured a fifth Georgian national chess championship. The open and women’s competitions ran together in Tbilisi from 27 January to 5 February, with ten players in each classical round-robin.

Jobava took the lead in round four and protected it through the final round. A draw against closest challenger Tornike Sanikidze secured the title; Sanikidze finished second and Luka Kiladze third. Both the champion and runner-up remained unbeaten.

Batsiashvili won five consecutive games in rounds four to eight, clinching the women’s title with a round remaining and finishing on 7.5/9. Lela Javakhishvili took silver ahead of Meri Arabidze on Sonneborn–Berger after Arabidze won their final-round encounter. The February conclusion, rather than the January opening, determines this report’s archive month.
