Gibson coach Bunt explains the relationships behind player development
The Australian returned to the national system after leading a Gold Coast academy.
Source publication date:
Jarrad Bunt described a coaching approach based on collaboration and understanding each athlete as he guided Talia Gibson’s rise. The Australian began working with Gibson in November 2025 after leaving KDV Tennis Academy on the Gold Coast and returning to the national performance system.
Bunt spent fifteen years in the Sydney national academy structure and contributed to the development of players including Alex de Minaur, Jordan Thompson and Alexei Popyrin. He later worked with Jason Kubler during an Australian Open doubles title and Wimbledon fourth-round run.
Now based in Brisbane, Bunt said flexible communication helps coaches respond to different players’ needs. He also discussed balancing extensive tour travel with family life in Australia, while enjoying the transition from predominantly coaching men to working in the increasingly physical women’s game.
