Talia Gibson defeated Jasmine Paolini 7–5, 2–6, 6–1 to reach her first WTA quarterfinal at Indian Wells. The twenty-one-year-old Australian qualifier secured her first top-ten victory after earlier wins over Ekaterina Alexandrova and Clara Tauson established her first top-twenty successes.

Gibson struck forty-two winners, thirty-six of them in the sets she won. After a late opening-set break, she lost rhythm as Paolini improved her variety in the second, but recovered decisively with an early break and sustained attacking accuracy in the decider.

She became the first singles qualifier since Lesia Tsurenko in 2015 to reach the tournament’s quarterfinals. Gibson entered ranked 112th and had only two tour main-draw wins before the season, making the victory another major step toward her top-hundred goal.
