Hundreds of primary-school pupils attended the third Great Island Cross-Cup at Cuskinny Court near Cobh. Great Island Athletics staged twelve races for children from first to sixth class, with five local schools represented across the programme.

Bunscoil Rinn an Chabhlaigh won both team trophies, taking the Kings and Queens of the Cross titles. Medals were distributed across all five participating schools, which also included Gaelscoil Cobh, St Mary’s, Scoil Iosaef Naofa and Walterstown.

The new Great Island Way offered a participation activity for children of different abilities in a relaxed setting. Five-time Olympian Rob Heffernan served as master of ceremonies, while organisers recognised support from local businesses, the Port of Cork and Cork County Council.
