Griggs finishes ninth in world indoor three-thousand metres
Andrew Coscoran placed thirteenth as Josh Kerr won a tightly contested final.
Source publication date:
Nick Griggs finished ninth in the men’s three-thousand-metre final at the World Indoor Championships in Toruń. The Irish runner clocked 7:39.03, a little more than three seconds behind champion Josh Kerr, while teammate Andrew Coscoran finished thirteenth in 7:43.89.
The race began tactically, with both Irish athletes conserving effort over the opening kilometre. Griggs followed Kerr through the early stages before the pace increased and the field stretched out, then recovered several places in the closing portion.
Kerr won in 7:35.56, ahead of Cole Hocker’s 7:35.70 and Yann Schrub’s 7:35.71. Lauren Roy also concluded her Irish championship appearance that evening, running 7.23 for sixth in her sixty-metre semi-final without advancing.
