Györ and Metz outline maternity support for professional handball players
The clubs describe continued pay, practical assistance and preparation for returning to competition.
Source publication date:
Györ and Metz described their approaches to supporting pregnant players in an EHF feature on maternity provision in handball. Györ’s managing director Edina Fata said four players had announced pregnancies together, creating practical challenges while the club maintained its commitment to supporting their family plans.
Metz president Thierry Weizman outlined continued salary and benefits, contractual security beyond pregnancy and assistance with administrative arrangements. The club handles reimbursement processes itself so players do not have to manage those issues while away from competition.
Both clubs acknowledged costs associated with replacements and additional accommodation, but regarded support as part of their organisational values. They also described individual training and rehabilitation assistance intended to help players return, presenting the arrangements as club decisions shaped around the needs of professional athletes.
