Hawkins and O’Brien win intermediate cross-country titles
The national championships used revised distances on a demanding one-kilometre loop.

Source publication date:
Fiona Hawkins and Frank O’Brien won the intermediate individual titles at Ireland’s national cross-country championships on 15 February. Hawkins covered the women’s 4000m in 17:06, while O’Brien completed the men’s 6000m in 22:00 at the Sport Ireland Campus.
Recent adverse weather led organisers to revise race distances and use a one-kilometre loop. Hope Saunders and Caitlin Hughes completed the women’s podium. Mahad Mohamed Egaal finished one second behind O’Brien, with Thomas McStay another two seconds back.
Dublin City Harriers won the women’s team competition and Galway City Harriers secured men’s team gold. The programme also included masters and juvenile races, with Colm Rooney retaining his masters men’s crown and Sinead O’Connor winning the masters women’s race.
