Hickey and McFadden win Irish schools cross-country crowns
Mallusk hosted the national championships as Renton earned the performance award.

Emma Hickey and Caolan McFadden won the senior titles at Ireland’s Schools Cross Country Championships at Mallusk outside Belfast. Hickey covered the girls’ three-and-a-half-kilometre course in 11:30, ahead of Dearbhla Allen and Emma Stewart, while McFadden won the boys’ race in 17:51.
Loreto Kilkenny took the senior girls’ team title with sixty-six points. Belvedere College won the senior boys’ competition with 111, led by Charlie O’Neill in sixth and Liam Morris in eleventh.
Freya Renton dominated the intermediate girls’ race in 11:08 and received the Rory Friel Memorial Trophy for the day’s outstanding performance. Darragh Whelan added the intermediate boys’ title in 15:15, with St Malachy’s College claiming that team crown.
