Hugo Inglis wins the IOC Climate Action Award for athletes
The New Zealand hockey Olympian was recognised for his High Impact Athletes work.
Source publication date:
New Zealand hockey Olympian Hugo Inglis won the athlete category of the IOC’s 2025 Climate Action Awards. The recognition was announced during the International Olympic Committee’s session and reported by the FIH the following day as another environmental award connected with hockey.
Inglis co-founded High Impact Athletes, an initiative that directs athlete donations towards evidence-based climate solutions. The movement supports organisations developing technology and policy intended to reduce emissions in sectors that are particularly difficult to decarbonise through existing approaches.
The award programme recognises practical sustainability projects across the Olympic Movement. FIH noted that it had won an IOC Climate Action Award the previous year, linking Inglis’s individual recognition with the sport’s recent institutional work and the growing involvement of athletes in climate initiatives.
