Hungary and Netherlands reach European women’s final
A shootout decided one semi-final while Dutch defence contained Italy in the other.

Hungary and the Netherlands reached the European women’s water polo final in Funchal. Hungary drew 8–8 with Greece before winning the shootout 4–3, securing its first appearance in the championship match since taking the title in 2016.
Greece equalised through Eleftheria Plevritou with thirty-nine seconds remaining after Hungary had stayed ahead throughout regulation. Goalkeeper Szonja Golopencza saved penalties from Siouti and Myriokefalitaki, deciding the contest and sending Greece into the bronze-medal match.
The Netherlands defeated Italy 8–4 in the other semi-final with a strong defensive performance. Italy would meet Greece for bronze, while classification semi-finals produced a 16–11 win for Croatia over Israel and a 15–4 victory for Spain against France.
