Ingvar Thor Jonsson is stepping away from IIHF organised events after representing Iceland in 23 men's world championships. The federation's March profile described that tally as the record among skaters and traced a career beginning with his international debut in 1999.

The 45-year-old defender made a brief Continental Cup comeback for Skautafelag Akureyrar before deciding to finish his international involvement. He cited the demands of a full season and the importance of creating playing opportunities for younger teammates.

Jonsson captained Iceland to Division II Group A silver in Belgrade in 2014 and was named the tournament's best defender. His reflections also highlighted the country's limited facilities: Iceland had only three indoor rinks, despite considerable progress since his first world championship.
