Irfan wins home-club epic as Texas seeds fall
Scianimanico and Elhammamy also recorded major victories in the second round.

Muhammad Ashab Irfan reached his first Gold-level quarterfinal by defeating Eain Yow Ng in a five-game Texas Open match. The Pakistani player, who trains at Houston Squash Club, saved a match ball before winning the decider 14-12 in front of home-club supporters.
The 73-minute victory earned him a meeting with top seed Diego Elias. Melvil Scianimanico also upset a seed, recovering from a game down to defeat former world No. 1 Mohamed ElShorbagy 9-11, 11-6, 11-4, 11-8.
Nadien Elhammamy beat Kenzy Ayman in the women’s field. Dimitri Steinmann advanced when Youssef Soliman retired late in their fifth game, while Nour ElSherbini and Olivia Weaver progressed in straight games.
