Italy’s athletics judges mark 90 years of service
The Gruppo Giudici Gare reported growing membership while calling for further recruitment.

Italy’s Gruppo Giudici Gare marked its 90th anniversary on 14 January. Founded in 1936, the group supports FIDAL competitions through officiating, rule enforcement and the administration of results.
National coordinator Federico Picchi reported 4,154 registered members in 2025, including 598 new arrivals. He described continued recruitment at regional level as necessary to keep pace with expanding athletics participation and competition programmes.
The federation linked recruitment to training and progression into international officiating. The anniversary report highlighted responsibilities extending from school competitions to European championships, making workforce development a central issue alongside the historical milestone.
