FIDAL announced the death of Romano Isler at eighty-five, recognising his long contribution to athletics and university sport. He had served as president of the Friuli Venezia Giulia regional athletics committee and led CUS Trieste for many years.

Isler was also a professor of general mathematics at the University of Trieste and the author of numerous scientific works. Alongside his academic career, he devoted decades to sports administration in Italy and within European university organisations.

He served on the central bodies of the Italian University Sports Centre for more than thirty years and held its vice-presidency from 1996 to 2001. His responsibilities also included membership of the European University Sports Association’s executive committee, with federation leaders extending condolences to his family.
