Katarina Jobst-Smith scored at 1:07 of overtime to give Germany a 2–1 victory over France in Olympic women’s hockey group B. A pass from Lilli Welcke created space for the defender to beat Alice Philbert with the deciding shot.

Germany outshot France 47–14, but Philbert’s goalkeeping repeatedly frustrated the attack and forced the extra period. The Germans welcomed finding a way to win while acknowledging that the number of scoring opportunities had not produced the return they wanted in regulation.

The overtime result left Germany’s quarter-final qualification dependent on the final group games against Italy and between Japan and Sweden. France was already eliminated from contention and would finish tenth, but completed its first Olympic tournament with a competitive performance and a point from the extended contest.
